Television News Producer

Job Description

WFMZ-TV is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented News Producer to join our award-winning newsroom in the Lehigh Valley. This position is ideal for a strong journalist who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values accuracy and fairness, and wants to produce meaningful local news that impacts our community.
About WFMZ
WFMZ-TV is an independent television station serving eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. We are committed to strong local journalism, breaking news, accurate weather coverage, and storytelling that matters. Our newsroom emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities

• Produce daily newscasts from concept to air, including story selection, writing, stacking, and timing
• Write clear, accurate, and compelling scripts under deadline pressure
• Collaborate closely with anchors, reporters, assignment desk, editors, and directors
• Make editorial decisions that reflect strong news judgment and ethical standards
• React quickly to breaking news and changing conditions
• Coordinate live shots, graphics, video elements, and teases
• Ensure all content meets WFMZ standards for accuracy, balance, and quality
• Contribute ideas that improve storytelling, pacing, and viewer engagement across platforms

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Prior newsroom experience preferred (local TV news producing experience a plus)
• Strong writing, spelling, and grammar skills
• Solid news judgment and understanding of local and national issues
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
