LSU Football Beat Writer

The Advocate | Times-Picayune is seeking a driven, digital-savvy journalist who will serve as the beat writer for LSU football. We’re looking for a versatile journalist who can break news, write in-depth features and provide analysis in a way that helps grow our audience in a competitive market in South Louisiana.

The position is based in Baton Rouge and will be part of a sports staff that is spread across four publications: The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, The Advocate in Baton Rouge, The Acadiana Advocate in Lafayette and The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate. 
 
In this position, you’ll play a crucial role on a five-person LSU beat staff that covers an athletic department generating as much buzz as any school in the nation. You’ll employ an audience-focused approach to your reporting that stands out from the crowd. The spotlight has always been on LSU football, but it just became even brighter with Lane Kiffin taking over the program.
 
You should embrace working in a collaborative newsroom environment and identify new ways to make sure your content grows our subscriber base and overall audience.
 
In this role, you will:

• Produce LSU football coverage that goes beyond press availability, establishing a unique voice on the beat.
• Develop sources and break news in relation to LSU football.
• Contribute to our podcasts and produce vertical video.
• Maintain consistent communication with editors and members of the LSU staff.
• Monitor data analytics to understand what our readers want.
• Be a strong story teller who can report on the inner workings of the LSU football program.
