Assistant Professor, Journalism

 

The University of New Hampshire’s English Department invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor of journalism. This position will be integral to the launch of an interdisciplinary major in Journalism and Media Studies in Fall, 2026, and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to teach core courses as well as create and teach additional courses that address trends in the field.

 

UNH has a rich tradition teaching the craft of nonfiction storytelling, and the successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of five years of professional experience producing deeply reported narrative journalism for the digital age.

 

Experience in a multi-platform newsroom, including work with visual or audio storytelling, is essential. UNH is an R1 research university, and the successful candidate is expected to produce robust journalism as a faculty member. Demonstrated teaching ability is required, as responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in news reporting and multimedia storytelling. The position is housed entirely within the English Department, which will oversee evaluation, service, and promotion.

 

The hiring committee is excited to consider excellent candidates whose work in the field and dedication to the teaching of journalism may range in a variety of directions. The successful candidate will have the freedom to establish their own place within the curriculum of the English Department, the interdisciplinary major, and the College of Liberal Arts.
