MANAGING EDITOR
The DC Voice (thedcvoice.com) is looking for a Managing Editor to supervise and coordinate the work of our community-based, online news and information website. We are looking for someone to create content strategies and oversee their implementation. The Managing Editor main duties include managing a team of writers, editors and graphic designers, monitoring the results of various content campaigns and editing content pieces to ensure they follow tone and style guides.

ABOUT THE DC VOICE
TheDCVoice.com is an online, community-focused, news and information platform providing an opportunity for residents, educational and religious institutions, and student contributors to become the predominant voice and major online presence for all things local to their communities. Communities of color are accustomed to media interlopers who tend to focus on the negative influences within these communities or, on the other extreme, elevate high achievers as the exception. What tends to get overlooked are the dedicated, hard-working residents and businesses that make up the fabric of these communities. The mission of The DC Voice is to amplify and represent those voices.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate brings a deep knowledge of the DMV and abilities to share news stories to viewers in our local communities. Experience managing a mix of student and freelance contributors. Have a strong writing/editorial/journalistic background; and a proven track record of editing copy with at least three years of experience including various forms of content, including e-newsletters, social media posts, video, and podcasts are a plus. Must be energetic, loves the Washington DC area, and has a stream of fresh ideas, highly collaborative and will get out in the community to generate ideas and establish contacts.

The Managing Editor will supervise and oversee the editorial production, from idea generation to publication. They also edit all content before publication to ensure written materials provide the most impact or views. The candidate will determine, analyze, choose and perform different promotional activities on various marketing platforms. Aside from continuously conducting research on interesting editorial stories using a variety of resources, the managing editor will also determine new ways of implementing editorial and content methodologies. The candidate will actively participate in community events.

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience:
A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required. An alternative would include four to six years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication Skills:
The managing editor must communicate effectively both within The DC Voice team and in the communities we serve. Interaction and communication with other departments, community leaders and with staff are essential elements of this position. A successful managing editor has the ability to write well and to effectively edit news copy.
