Job Description

Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a News Podcast Host / Reporter.

About the Position:

The News Podcast Host / Reporter will connect with local audiences as one of two primary hosts for our daily short-form news podcast, Colorado Today. In this role, you will debrief CPR reporters and interview journalists from other outlets, as well as newsmakers from across the state. You will also write, track and produce daily show elements. This position requires covering Colorado in ways that reflect and represent the state’s diversity, with a focus on underrepresented communities and regions. In addition, you will serve as a backup host for radio news magazine shifts, including Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

The new hire is expected to reside in the Denver Metro upon starting - this is not a remote position.

Job Requirements

You are a creative storyteller and a reliable host with a deep curiosity about daily news. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, identifying and producing stories each day that reflect what’s happening, while also pursuing enterprise reporting that sparks meaningful conversations about important issues. You’re excited about hosting a daily podcast because you bring a wide range of interests, a strong sense of curiosity, and a desire to learn alongside your audience. You’re committed to inclusive journalism through thoughtful sourcing and story selection, and you’re skilled at building relationships with people from diverse communities. Collaboration and communication are central to how you work. You give and receive feedback well, keep teammates informed, and enjoy partnering with colleagues to produce strong journalism.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of hosting experience, or experience in roles where you have used your voice as the main medium to communicate with an audience. This should include a strong ability to communicate in a conversational style when hosting.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of ethical, fair and accurate reporting.
  • Experience editing and mixing audio (such as with Adobe Audition), and familiarity with broadcast boards and other studio equipment.
  • A demonstrated ability to generate great story ideas that speak to varied, real, human experiences.
  • A demonstrated ability to earn trust and report on issues impacting underserved communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, switch between tasks as necessary and work in a fast-paced, digital environment.

Education Equivalency:

  • A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.
