Florida A&M University´s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Broadcast Instructor (non- tenure earning) vacancy.
Responsibilities
Serve as instructor and news director for SJGC’s live daily TV/web newscast, supervising student journalists, anchors, editors, producers, and technical staff; Teach undergraduate courses in broadcast journalism, digital media, production and performance; Co-advise a student media organization, providing editorial support, strategic guidance, and mentorship; Facilitate instruction in SJGC’s state-of-the-art facilities, including digital newsrooms, TV studios, and editing suites; Provide student guidance in securing internships and job opportunities, leveraging industry contacts; and, contribute to school, university, and community service, including curriculum development and event participation.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree or higher in journalism, mass communication, or a closely related field (broadcast/digital/visual journalism, media/video production).
A minimum of three (3) years professional experience in broadcast reporting, producing, or production roles.

Demonstrated best practices in developing and maintaining student relations, communication, interpersonal, decision making and leadership skills;
A classroom leader, colleague, and student mentor who will help advance the success and achievement of students; and,
Understand, develop and provide a learning environment that supports and incorporates sensitivity to cultural differences within the college community.
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of collegiate teaching experience;
Familiarity with industry networks and student employment pathways;
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with experience mentoring various student populations;
Possess a deep understanding of multimedia storytelling and newsroom operations;
Demonstrated excellence in student and staff engagement;
Commitment to professional ethics and student-centered learning;
Willingness to embrace innovation and evolving media platforms;
Experience as a manager or leading teams is desired;
Demonstrated solid news judgment and editorial decision-making in fast-paced broadcast environments;
A strong portfolio that reflects expertise in visual storytelling, videography, editing, and social media integration;
Proven experience in both production (commercial or cable news, documentaries, post-production) and non-production areas (on-air performance, broadcast announcing);
Proficiency in ENPS, server-based news systems, and video news feed workflows.
