Job Description

Broadcast Production Assistant

WISN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, WI., has an opening for a Production Assistant. We are looking for a team player to join our production crew who understands the flexible schedule that the broadcast industry requires. You will be responsible for floor directing live newscasts and studio production as well lighting and staging for remote production and commercial shoots as needed and teleprompter operation.  You will work with our production team to guarantee a successful broadcast is produced. You will report to the Director of Programming and Public Affairs and more directly the Stage Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Floor direct high paced newscasts and other studio productions
  • Understand and maintain lighting grid and control board 
  • Move, handle and construct props & sets for productions
  • Maintain appearance of studios including cleaning of set and floors
  • Climb ladders to change light bulbs and adjust fixtures on the grid
  • Lift (occasionally heavy) set pieces and equipment
  • Help with remote production as needed   

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of television newscasts
  • Can deal with the stresses, deadlines, and pressures of time-sensitive production
  • Previous lighting, floor directing, and production experience preferred
  • Previous live production/broadcast/news experience preferred
  • Team player with a good attitude
  • Must be able to problem solve quickly, communicate effectively, and work well under pressure
  • Must be able to adjust to a flexible schedule that may include evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays and can vary
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • In person attendance is required
  • Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and associated experience will be considered
