Job Summary
The DEI Social Media Intern will develop and implement social media strategies specifically for LinkedIn and X (Twitter). This position will focus on increasing brand awareness and engagement with our energy journalism content in the digital space while bringing a unique perspective to their work. This intern should have a strong understanding of effective social media practices and a passion for journalism, particularly in the energy sector.
The goal is to cultivate a career path for a communicator from a diverse background and life experiences, while also shining a light on energy journalism in the west. Bringing a unique voice and view to the clients we serve is a powerful way to accomplish that goal.
Responsibilities
Create and schedule engaging content for LinkedIn and X (Twitter)
Monitor social media trends relevant to journalism and energy reporting
Track and analyze social media metrics to measure success
Research industry best practices for niche journalism content distribution
Collaborate with the editorial team to align social media content with published articles
Develop strategies to grow our follower base and increase engagement
Create weekly reports on social media performance and audience growth
Participate in weekly strategy meetings with leadership
Additional duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
None (non-managerial, non-supervisory)
Skills
Strong understanding of social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn and X (Twitter)
Demonstrated experience with social media content creation and strategy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail
Familiarity with social media management tools
Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team
Passion for journalism and interest in energy-related topics
Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field
Demonstrated experience with social media content creation
Read, write and speak English at a professional level
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, LinkedIn and X (Twitter)
Available Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Pacific Time), mid-June to mid-August 2025
Must have reliable internet connection and appropriate workspace for remote work (or have ability to access these with reasonable accommodations if needed)
Desired Attributes
Previous education or work experience in social media management
Knowledge of or interest in energy industry topics
Experience with social media analytics and reporting tools (TapClicks, etc.)
Understanding of SEO principles as they relate to social media
Experience using creative software including video and graphics creation tools
Residing in, or familiar with the western region of the U.S.
Physical Demands
This position requires sitting approximately 80% of standard workday and standing at desk for approximately 20% of standard workday. The ability to use a computer for extended periods is necessary.

No travel required for this position.
Notes
Compensation will be $21.00 an hour.
