Job Description:
The Boston Globe is looking for a smart, collaborative, and aggressive reporter to cover the health care, hospital, and life sciences industries in New England. This beat is among the biggest at the Globe, with hospital systems and biotech companies ranking among the region's largest employers, most crucial service providers, and highest-profile corporations.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, innovative journalist, ideally with experience covering business and/or health care, and skills for building trust with sensitive sources, breaking scoops, and telling fascinating stories. They will care about finding sources from diverse backgrounds and covering the health care industry’s impacts on patients and employees from marginalized communities. They will join our Business staff and work closely with several other health care reporters, so excellent communication and teamwork is critical.
The beat encompasses a range of industries, from hospitals and health insurance to nursing homes, behavioral health, and biotech, where scientists create cutting-edge treatments that save lives but can also drive up costs. The ideal candidate will be able to build an array of trusted sources to break news, hold institutions accountable, and weave compelling narratives about the human side of health. We’re also looking for someone who can adeptly show how federal and state policy shifts ripple through New England’s health care industries.
