Job Description
The KBIA Program Director (Media Production Director III) position oversees all over-the-air programming of both KBIA and KMUC Radio. This entails evaluating current and future programs for air, both from NPR and locally produced recordings. There is direct supervision of full-time on-air personalities and supervising the traffic manager for both stations.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
• Serve as the local in-studio host of programs. Conduct local breaks that consist of forward promotion that aims to extend the time spent listening by the audience.
 
• Live-read local underwriting announcements, air recorded promos for local and national programming, record national funding credits, and update the listening audience on weather and current times of interest.
 
• Interface with students and professional staff from the KBIA newsroom to air regular local newscasts and plays locally produced features and interviews.
 
• Supervise direct reports, assign producers their weekly on-air hosting shifts, review and evaluate those on-air shifts to ensure compliance with tasks like completing underwriting announcements, being consistent in station promotion and branding, and effectiveness of on-air breaks to retain audience as relates to their structure and execution.
 
• Field any issues with software and audio files or with students or professional personnel that might affect announcers and their ability to execute their responsibilities correctly.
 
• Ensure that recorded program files are in the system correctly and program the software to play back the correct files at the correct time.
 
• Evaluate programs on the quality and content of the program against our known listener profiles and demographics to determine if the programming will be of interest and value to our listeners.
 
• Evaluate the success and failures of programming using Nielsen and other research data.
 
• Work with the School of Journalism and other University of Missouri personnel on special projects.
 
• Assist in review and approval of on-air underwriting copy, abiding by FCC regulations and KBIA standards and best practices.
 
• Coordinate and file required usage reports to music licensing organizations and assist in uploading required reports to the FCC.
 
• Other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
 
Anticipated Hiring Range
$63,000 - $70,000
