Job Description

Do you want to produce visually compelling online stories and content to help Washingtonians stay in the know about the newest restaurants, things to do, and cultural news? Are you eager to learn the ins and outs of web production?

 

Apply to Washingtonian’s web production fellowship!

The web production fellow is a self-starter with an appreciation for digital audiences and how they prefer to consume content. They understand that a print story needs to be told differently on web. They are excited to find new and creative ways to tell our stories online. Over the years, our web fellows have written stories for print and web, landed jobs at prestigious media companies, and had tons of fun.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist web producer in producing stories from print for the website, including features
  • Create lead graphics Things to Do, Capital Comment, and other stories as needed
  • Photo research and outreach
  • Assist web producer in daily email content curation for newsletters
  • Assist web producer with managing web production calendar
  • Communicate across editorial, art, and photo departments
  • Help write SEO-friendly web heds and deks
  • Assist the digital team in the planning and execution of special project assignments
  • Opportunity to contribute to Washingtonian social media projects

The fellow will also have the opportunity to learn social media analytics, write for our website and print, and meet with Washingtonian staff to learn about their career trajectory.


Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Available to work full time Monday through Friday
  • Have CMS experience (WordPress is a plus)
  • Have Photoshop and Illustrator experience
  • Basic photo and visual editing skills, video is a plus
  • Ability to multitask and juggle priorities on deadline
  • Prior HTML experience is a plus
  • SEO experience is a plus
  • Experience creating social content on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. TikTok experience is a plus.
  • Sharp social copywriting skills and strong command of tone
  • Preferred that applicants live in DC/Maryland/Virginia or be willing to relocate.

Fellows are paid at a rate of $17.50/hour
