Jefferson Public Radio (JPR) is seeking a senior producer for its weekday one-hour civic affairs program, The
Jefferson Exchange. The producer works in collaboration with the program’s host to steer the journalistic and creative direction of the show as a reflection of life in Southern Oregon and far Northern California. The Jefferson Exchange engages JPR’s audience in the issues that are important to people – current news, solving long-term community problems, regional politics, arts and culture. The producer is responsible for overall editorial planning, scheduling guests and providing background material on guests to the host. The producer identifies newsworthy and interesting topics and facilitates interviews with newsmakers and civic leaders to address those topics.

JPR is a network of 23 public radio stations and 36 translators serving a 60,000 square-mile area of Southern Oregon and Northern California. JPR is licensed to and operated by Southern Oregon University (SOU), whose main campus is located in Ashland, Oregon. JPR operates from a state-of-the-art broadcast center on the SOU Ashland campus and also operates a satellite studio facility in the Cascade Theatre in Redding, California. JPR provides three fully separate, full-time program services and is an NPR member station. Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field OR, four years of experience in writing, producing and reporting for radio or television OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education
- Demonstrated understanding of Oregon and California regional issues that are of interest to citizens of the JPR listening area; and knowledge of regional politics, news, science, technology, health, nature, environment, and the arts
- Experience and proficiency using digital editing software
- Excellent communication and editorial skills; and ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with audio editing and playback software, such as Adobe Audition.
- Experience operating radio control board and other audio equipment
