Position: Join the award-winning Nine PBS team as our new Director of Content. The ideal candidate for this role will oversee the direction of our storytelling to help our region flourish across digital and broadcast platforms. As a key people leader for content, you’ll inspire and challenge our producers to showcase and tell stories in new ways. You’ll manage our content calendar, identify new opportunities, and take smart risks to engage our existing and new audiences through innovative storytelling formats. If you thrive in balancing the tactical with strategy, this role will enable you to make a lasting impact.
The Director of Content will report to the Vice President & Chief Content Officer. They will serve as the day-to-day tactician, ensuring local storytelling across platforms is in alignment with Nine PBS’s content strategy, and mapping out digital and broadcast short-form and long-form content and effective distribution. This position directly supervises content creators and a social media coordinator to ensure that the Nine PBS team is creating compelling stories aligned with our region’s needs.
The ideal candidate will understand that while you will not be creating content, you will supervise a team of experienced content creators to advance the strategies and priorities of Nine PBS’s content team.
Hybrid Schedule: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule, typically working up to three days virtually each week. On-site work is expected for team meetings and monthly staff meetings. Must be present and representative for content team, where needed.

Job Requirements

Primary Responsibilities: The following primary responsibilities are essential to meeting the expectations of this position. This is not an exhaustive list and areas of focus may fluctuate between the primary and secondary responsibilities, as needed.
  • Oversee the daily creation and distribution of local content for digital and broadcast platforms aligned with the strategies and priorities of Nine PBS.
  • Lead and supervise producers, providing guidance and ensuring development opportunities.
  • Manage content calendar for short-term and long-term content priorities.
  • Develop and implement strategies that attract and engage targeted new and existing audiences.
  • Study available data to recommend shifts in strategy and tactics.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations for digital platform and content implementations.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Digital Analytics to understand trends, data, tactics, and platforms.
  • Collaborate with content team on digital experience opportunities and experiments.
  • Collaborate within and across teams and represent content in needed meetings.
Secondary Responsibilities: These are additional activities that are expected to be performed with this position.
  • Serve on the Nine PBS Operations team, contributing to a collaborative cross-departmental environment.
  • Serve as editorial standards and guidance advisor.
  • Ensure content is diversified and meets target audiences where they are.
  • Understand industry-wide shifts and changes to determine timely calibration/recalibration for Nine PBS.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree optimal alongside 5-8 years of experience in Communications, Journalism, Production, Multimedia, or other related fields. Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other MS Office applications, editing software (i.e. Final Cut), project management tools, and Microsoft 365.
