Job Description

As part of a team of general and science communications writers, the Senior Writer - Science will develop content for internal and external audiences with an emphasis on scientific research, advancements and academics. In this role, you will identify and produce newsworthy stories in basic and translational biomedical science that represent UCLA Health’s standing among the leaders in the field. You will have the ability to take complex science and build articles for a peer-to-peer audience, as well as simplify complex science in a way that is readable and digestible for the general public. As our Writer, you will also coordinate coverage with the UCLA Health Media Relations team, Internal Communications and Marketing to generate the greatest visibility for UCLA Health. You will work with graphic artists, photographers and videographers to determine the best way to tell specific stories. Salary Range: $64,800-$137,600 Annually

* Strong news judgement; the ability to discern the most newsworthy element of a project * Ability to learn quickly and adapt to fast-changing opportunities and challenges * Advanced judgment, analytical and decision-making skills, with diplomacy for navigating sensitive topics * Advanced degree preferred * Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communication, marketing, journalism, or relevant field and/or related work experience * Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with reporting and writing on the biomedical sciences
