Job Description

KUSA-TV, the TEGNA owned NBC affiliate in Denver, CO is looking for an Executive Producer to lead our late news efforts. This person must be a creative, motivational, and experienced newsroom leader. They will jump in and help lead breaking news coverage. If you are a visionary who can successfully identify great, impactful content and develop a roadmap to meet the goals of 9NEWS on broadcast, digital and social platforms, this position is for you.

Responsibilities: The Executive Producer will:

  • Lead teams in the creation of unique, shareable content
  • Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content
  • Work with the digital desk to identify and assign content appropriately for each platform
  • Encourage innovation, risk-taking and powerful storytelling in crafting great newscasts
  • Inspire enterprise stories and coordinate special coverage with news leadership team
  • Oversee multiple newscasts to ensure the brand promise and strategies are met
  • Regularly critique newscasts with the staff, both as a team and with individual producers
  • Identify daily opportunities to have our news get noticed and reach new audiences
  • Challenge the norm
  • Help create a multi-platform experience
  • Work collaboratively with other managers and perform tasks as required by News Director, Digital Director, and Director of Content
  • Recruit and coach new producers
Budgeted Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000

Job Requirements

  • Applicants must have major breaking news experience, strong editorial judgement, newscast producing expertise and fully understand the needs of our audience across all platforms
  • Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • Experience successfully leading teams through content transformation
  • The ideal candidate should be adept at creating an audience-focused content calendar that aligns with research and the needs of our audience
  • Strong organizational, motivational and communication skills
  • 3+ years leadership experience preferred as a senior producer, EP or newsroom manager
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications preferred
  • Work Environment: Office

Physical Demands: Sedentary work

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
