Summary/Objective
The Reporter – News Anchor plays a multi-faceted role carrying out the WAMU/DCist regional news strategy across multiple platforms. In the capacity of Reporter, the individual is expected to meet daily news deadlines while developing and delivering longer-form features, enterprise and/or breaking news stories. Working in a multi platform environment, the reporter will craft content to suit different audiences and platforms – on-air and online. The position’s reporting duties will focus primarily on covering the regional food beat, including the restaurant industry, local and state policies, and people. The reporting focus on food is not to be concentrated on restaurant reviews, but rather bringing a journalistic framing to finding and telling impactful stories for audiences.
This position also is the primary fill-in news anchor as assigned, serving as the voice of local and regional news. In this capacity, the Reporter – News Anchor writes and plans for digital and broadcasting local newscasts, headlines, assigned podcasts and anchors breaking news events, working with production team. The Reporter – News Anchor must make numerous independent decisions involving critical news judgments when anchoring. The Reporter – News Anchor runs their own board unless assigned a board operator.
