We rely on evidence and storytelling to bring to life the research and decisions that are made at the intersection of policy, money and people.

Tradeoffs is a rapidly growing organization looking to add a full-time remote Reporter/Producer to our team, reporting to the Executive Editor. This is a terrific opportunity for a person who loves health policy, wants to make sure their work has an impact and is excited to help the nation have a smarter, more informed conversation about the U.S. health care system.

The salary range is $75,000-$90,000 based on experience with a preferred start date of August 8, 2022.

The Reporter/Producer pitches, reports and produces one to two, 15-20 minute episodes per month. Episodes include policy and research explainers, profiles of people impacted by or working on health policy, and narrative features. You will manage the production and reporting process. Duties include booking and interviewing guests, including health care experts, medical providers and patients, supporting the host in preparing for and conducting interviews, and episode mixing and sound designing in coordination with the Sound Designer. You will also create a 4:30 minute radio show version of each podcast episode, produce supplemental digital content and work with the marketing team to promote Tradeoffs. You will be asked to peer edit and collaborate with the rest of our small team as projects arise. You may appear on Tradeoffs and/or serve as a guest on other media outlets.

Benefits:
This is a full-time, regular exempt/non-exempt position. In addition to the base salary, we offer $200 in monthly health care reimbursements, unlimited paid time off, paid holidays and paid office closure for a week in the summer and a week in December.

Job Requirements

What you’ll bring:

• You understand health policy, i.e. you love to geek out as you dig into literature reviews, interview economists and track the latest research.
• You love audio storytelling and have experience in audio journalism, audio production and/or podcasting. Familiarity with Adobe Audition or other digital audio editing software is a plus.
• You like to write and have practice humanizing dense issues.
• You are process-oriented and comfortable managing sources and editors to produce high-quality content on deadline.
• You enjoy a rigorous, collaborative editing process.
• You are excited to join a small team that is all hands on deck and is driven by getting as many people as possible to hear, read and learn from our journalism.
