Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a breaking news video producer and editor for our expanding climate coverage. This video producer/editor will be an important daily contributor to breaking news on Washington Post sites, YouTube and Instagram.

The video producer/editor is expected to generate original ideas, produce live events, and identify and source social video. We are looking for an excellent collaborator who will work closely with all newsroom teams. This role will often lead our video coverage for extreme weather events by sourcing video elements, creating quick, optimized clips for Instagram, editing original footage from reporters in the field and producing quick-turn original packages to complement and elevate our reporting.

The producer/editor makes news-driven and audience-focused decisions on what video to create or aggregate. The ideal candidate is a versatile journalist with a background in acquiring and verifying video and producing in-depth video stories and explainers. This position requires at least three years’ experience in a fast-paced newsroom, strong news judgment and the ability to multitask. Editing quickly on Adobe products is also required.

Some shiftwork, including rotational weekend coverage, is a required part of this role. This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom and not eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé with links to their work and a cover letter outlining the experience they would bring to the position to our jobs portal by April 28. Your cover letter should be addressed to Supervising Producer Sarah Parnass, Senior Producer Nicki DeMarco, Director of Video Micah Gelman and Managing Editors Kat Downs Mulder and Krissah Thompson.
