Job Description

Come join our MassLive Content team in Springfield! The Social Media Producer executes activities aimed at improving the reach of online content and increasing the MassLive brand presence on existing and emerging social media platforms. This position promotes content on our various branded channels and establishes targeted presence on new platforms with content generated by our newsrooms and social media team.

The Social Media Producer is a content generator that produces written, video and photo content for MassLive. This position is responsible for contributing to MassLive's social media platforms, ensuring that they reflect the best content available and that they are in sync with audience interest. This position leverages content and audience metrics to optimize the website and social channels and is responsible for helping to set and share best practices and standards to create optimal user experience and engagement. The Social Media Producer provides operational support to MassLive's statewide news, sports and entertainment coverage and manages notifications, troubleshoots problems, helps train newsroom staff on social media updates, assists director in rolling out new programs and works with tech support to ensure audience experience and staff production is fully functional. 

To be considered for the role, you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field required
  • 2- 3 years of digital journalism experience
  • Expertise managing social media platforms, preferably for a brand or newsroom
  • Passion for social media
  • Experience producing written content for a newsroom (news, entertainment/life and culture subject matter preferred)
  • Comfort producing multiple pieces of content per day
  • Multimedia (photo and video) experience
  • Proven experience building, maintaining and engaging an active digital audience
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and prioritize tasks
  • Demonstrated writing, editing and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Prior experience using a Content Management System
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) practices
