Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a supervising video producer-editor to oversee our weekend breaking news coverage. The ideal candidate is an experienced video producer-editor who welcomes the demands of breaking news, has sound news judgment and is an excellent collaborator. Strong communication skills are required along with knowledge of video SEO best practices and audience trends. This job is a part of a major expansion of The Post’s editing ranks.

The producer-editor will oversee breaking news video coverage on Saturday and Sunday, assigning stories to others while producing or editing their own work. Responsibilities also include sourcing and licensing video, editing quick-turn clips to help readers understand unfolding stories, and conceiving and editing scripted packages to explain ongoing issues.

The producer-editor will coordinate live-streaming coverage on weekends, alerting internal stakeholders to developing news, promoting events to users, and optimizing streams and clips for both real-time and later viewing. From Wednesday to Friday, the supervising producer-editor works on assigned stories, pitches ideas, attends weekend planning meetings and assists on other tasks as needed.

This ideal candidate has at least five years of experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment and the ability to multitask and act as a player and coach. Efficient editing skills on Adobe products are required.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and three examples of outstanding breaking news coverage to our jobs portal by Oct.18. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Senior Producer Nicki DeMarco, Director of Video Micah Gelman, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
