Podcasts at the FT sit within the digital editorial development team, where audio plays a pivotal role in helping us improve our reach and engage more deeply with new and existing audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is pushing to innovate in audio as you help develop engaging content reflective of our world class journalism. As we launch exciting new ventures in audio, you will form an integral part of the global team.

You will have an enthusiasm for and demonstrable experience in narrative podcasting. We're looking for a confident communicator, who is able to articulate their unique and creative approach to programme making.

You have a good grasp of the US market and successful podcast formats, a passion for current affairs and business news, and a good understanding of the FT’s unique brand of globally-focused journalism.

Your Skills:

  • Able to communicate complex ideas with clarity
  • Excellent news judgement
  • A creative and adept audio editor
  • An experienced and effective scriptwriter
  • Significant experience working as a producer
  • Highly-skilled in editing on DAWs, mainly Pro-Tools
  • Experience working in an audio team within a print newsroom is a plus
  • Able to work collaboratively across a newsroom
  • An instinct for how great print journalism should be told through audio
  • Familiarity and experience working on a US-marketed podcast
  • Organized and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Experience developing host talent

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee output, provide feedback, sign-off on edits and web copy on US based shows
  • Contribute to new show development and storyboarding with the audio team, FT journalists and/or production partners
  • Provide regular feedback to presenters and producers
  • Work closely with the sound engineer to refine edits and build a signature sound for the FT
  • Help manage audience growth strategies for our audio content, including promotion strategies for existing shows and new show launches
  • Ensure content produced with external partners aligns with the FT’s journalism and audio style
  • Produce and edit shows when required
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and the evolving audio landscape, communicating insights with the audio team
  • Coordinate with our in-house lawyer on fair dealing, copyright and libel risks

Please apply via Workday with your CV, cover letter and portfolio full of ear-catching audio stories by 15th September.
