We're looking for a Senior Editor to join our Communications and Marketing team. In this role, you will help identify and create written and multimedia stories that explain our faculty research and illuminate the GSB experience and impact to a global audience. You will have the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, and alumni in creating compelling stories. In addition, you will assign and manage a pool of freelance writers and collaborate closely with other team members within the department. This role reports to the Director of Content and works closely with another senior editor and a team of multimedia content producers to produce a print magazine, an email newsletter, and a wide range of other content.  

The ideal candidate has extensive journalism experience, keen and creative storytelling skills, and a willingness to explore and try new ideas. You’ll need to understand varied audiences and bear in mind the broad communication goals of the school. You will have experience working with faculty or senior level professionals and be able to work in a dynamic collaborative place.  

Your primary responsibilities include: 

  • Identify, assign, and edit written stories to 1) share the knowledge and insights from faculty, students, alumni, and others; 2) illuminate the impact and experience of the school; 3) report on timely news.  
  • Partner with web and design teams for visual storytelling and information graphics. Partner with social content creators to ensure effective storytelling across channels. 
  • Manage biweekly email newsletter, and ongoing Voices profiles. Contribute to production and editing of magazine. 
  • Recruit and manage freelance writer pool; may manage budget and negotiate contracts with vendors. 
  • Manage editorial and production processes that are complex in nature and reach across organizational levels.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this position, you will bring:  

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant work experience or combination of education and relevant experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee all aspects of editorial and publication process. 
  • Demonstrated advanced editorial and public relations skills and the ability to synthesize material from multiple sources. 
  • Extensive experience managing and coordinating complex editorial and publication projects. 
  • Strong writing skills and experience reporting and writing a variety of articles. 
  • Experience in higher education a plus. 
  • Expert level knowledge of job-required tools and applications. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply discretion and judgment in evaluating implications of information release to internal and external audiences.
