Job Description

Confidential is a well-funded news startup preparing to launch a digital publication this fall. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an ambitious project. Our goal is to reach an influential audience hungry for a new way to understand complex stories. We want to show readers how a story crosses beats and how it’s best understood through multiple frames, including geopolitics, economics, technology, science and more. We will prioritize data and research in our work.

We are hiring journalists with strong reporting, writing and analytical skills who would be excited by the challenge of taking a new approach to their beat and continually testing new formats. We want to lay out the who, what, when, etc., and explain the multiple frames through which to understand the bigger picture. We want reporters with subject-area expertise who see the forces animating their beats and how their beats intersect with others.  We will consider applicants with other professional backgrounds who can show us they have the area-specific expertise and writing skills to do the work.
