Job Description

The Innovation & Disruption Section Editor will be responsible for CONFIDENTIAL building a team looking at how powerful institutions — from governments to corporations to religions — are trying to shape our views and our lives. The editor will coach reporters to see stories across beats, digging into the role of forces like disinformation, political extremism, big data, and more. An ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial spirit and will be a big thinker, a thought leader, and an expert in one or more of these subject areas who can help our audience see the ways in which these forces impact their lives.
 
Responsibilities
  • Hiring a strong team of beat reporters and coaching the team to see connections and the intersectionality between their beats
  • Helping the managing editor articulate a clear vision by creating a unique approach to the coverage areas
  • Developing and refining story ideas
  • Commissioning and publishing pieces for launch
  • Reviewing and editing editorial bylaws
  • Managing and editing non-journalists and outside expert contributors
  • Be ever focused on how these topic areas impact our audience

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing and coaching a team
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong story development skills
  • Commitment to viewing all stories through an equity lens
  • Proven track record collaborating across beats and across a newsroom
  • Expertise in these subject areas and proven ability translating that expertise for a broad popular audience
  • Experience collaborating with an art department and designers
  • Demonstrated experience writing about these areas in an unconventional way
