SLM Media Group—publisher of the award-winning St. Louis Magazine, Design STL, St. Louis Family, stlmag.com, and a suite of newsletters—is looking for a versatile, enterprising journalist to join its award-winning team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for magazine journalism, impressive chops in digital journalism, and the ability to multitask. Report, write, and edit articles on a wide range of topics.
Consistently generate compelling story ideas.
Produce timely, high-quality content on deadline, working with freelancers as needed.
Copy-edit and proofread stories.
Help coordinate production for print and digital products.
Contribute to service features, charts, and key company initiatives.
Collaborate with other editors, writers, and designers.
Help manage social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
Monitor analytics to identify trends and opportunities for growth and engagement.
Write effective SEO-friendly headlines.
Help manage editorial interns.
Occasional administrative duties.
Other duties as required.
A passion for journalism.
A high level of comfort, experience, and savviness with regard to digital journalism.
A bachelor’s degree in journalism or English.
A minimum of two years of experience reporting, writing, and editing in a magazine or newspaper environment.
A deft and lyrical writing style.
A knack for collaborating with freelancers and assigning magazine-style features to multiple writers.
Ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment.
Skilled at packaging content with wit and originality.
Knowledge of the St. Louis region, or the ability to attain that knowledge quickly and remain abreast of what’s happening across a range of areas.
Adeptness at balancing fun and professionalism, creativity and focus.
Experience with magazines and online work is strongly preferred.
