Hearst Newspapers is seeking an enterprising digital news editor to drive our daily news content in the Hudson Valley, a new area of expanded coverage for the Albany Times Union.
The ideal candidate will be a newshound with a finger on the pulse of the regions we serve, producing multiple stories daily for a digital audience with photos and an understanding of SEO. This role will report and craft engaging centerpiece stories while assisting with shorter form and aggregated top-of-the-funnel content to keep our Hudson Valley-focused section current and robust.
Your Duties on the Team:
Assign, report, write, produce and aggregate top-of-the-funnel news content to assure the site reflects the latest news affecting the Hudson Valley region
Uncover interesting regional story ideas for deeper exploration
Spot breaking news and work with the site team to quickly post developing stories
Manage freelance writers and reporters as needed, seeing the process through from workshopping to editing, production and publishing
Work closely with the editorial team to coordinate daily coverage and futures plan

3-5 years of relevant experience in writing, editing, and managing writers, editors or producers in publishing or digital media.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Journalism, Digital Media Studies, Communications, English, Literature or related fields from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this role
Ability to work autonomously from a remote office while maintaining open communication and a collaborative spirit with the team
Excellent news judgment and understanding of media ethics
Experience in, and understanding of, the Hudson Valley Region.
