CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER
WBUR, Boston’s NPR news station, is a public media organization committed to exceptional journalism and deep civic engagement — providing news, analysis and entertainment to Boston and beyond — on air, online at wbur.org, on demand and on stage. WBUR is the home of national programs Here & Now and On Point, reaching millions of listeners each week on more than 500 public radio stations nationwide. The WBUR iLab produces popular podcasts including Circle Round and Endless Thread. WBUR serves its local community with the largest public radio newsroom in the country and with CitySpace a dynamic, new venue for civic discourse and cultural exchange.
WBUR has a powerful history. We have been broadcasters for 70 years and, over those years, we have fostered deep and lasting relationships with our radio audience. Our next job is to deepen and broaden that connection, to build those relationships, for digital audiences in ways that ensure we’re here for another 70 years. We must be laser-focused on that, because with time — and likely sooner than we think — digital revenue will need to replace much of the traditional broadcast revenue that supports our journalism. And it won’t happen unless we build the kind of loyalty and devotion that we’ve historically had with our radio audience.
The ideal candidate has deep news and digital experience, a sophisticated understanding of the changing media landscape and evolving content platforms, along with an ability to set strategy and help WBUR place its bets. This person must be a proven leader and manager, who inspires trust and confidence, and can communicate with clarity and command.
This person will help ensure that WBUR is the most trusted and beloved source of local news in Boston and beyond, distinguished in a competitive media landscape by the quality and ambition of our journalism and our programming. The Chief Content Officer will help identify how we continue to grow our audience and cultivate the loyalty and financial support that is essential to sustaining our journalism at a time of profound technological change.
The Chief Content Officer will report directly to the CEO.
