The West Virginia University Reed College of Media seeks a highly experienced and innovative sports journalist or sports media practitioner who will teach courses in the college’s Sports and Adventure Media Major. This position will begin in August 2020.
The ideal candidate for this position will have national or major market industry experience as a sports journalist. Candidates with significant media production experience in the sports industry, including experience writing and producing video, audio and digital content, are also encouraged to apply. Highly qualified persons may be considered for the Shott Professorship.
A master’s degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications or a related relevant field, and significant industry experience in one or more of the areas listed above is preferred. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree will be considered if they also have at least fifteen years of significant industry experience. Collegiate-level teaching and experience in curriculum development are strongly preferred.
This faculty position will teach undergraduate courses in sports media, specifically in video and audio storytelling. This position will also manage the internship program for the major, helping to identify and match students with opportunities to secure valuable experiences outside of the classroom.

The WVU Reed College of Media is an ACEJMC-accredited program with more than 1,200 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The university has approximately 30,000 students and is located in Morgantown, WV, about 70 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA, and a three-hour drive from Washington, D.C. WVU is a member of the NCAA Division 1 and has been in the Big 12 Conference since 2012. WVU sports play a vibrant role in Morgantown, and outdoor adventure sports and recreation, including some of the East’s best rock climbing and whitewater rafting, are just minutes from town.
