Assistant Professor of Journalism (non-tenure-track) focused on data journalism

The Department of Journalism within the School of Media and Communication at Temple University seeks candidates for a non-tenure-track assistant professor position, to begin in August 2016, focused on data journalism (journalism and mapping/design and/or data analysis) and journalism research (including public-records and database research). Additional areas of expertise may include design or multimedia journalism. The successful candidate must provide evidence of strong teaching experience.

The goal of Temple’s journalism program is to prepare students for a multimedia professional future with solid training in urban journalism and with particular emphasis on underserved communities. We seek a colleague with a similar commitment and philosophy.

The Department of Journalism is more than 80 years old with 15 full-time faculty members who teach approximately 600 students pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Journalism. Departmental faculty members who hold the Ph.D. also have the opportunity to participate in the School of Media and Communication’s doctoral program in Media and Communication.

Temple University’s School of Media and Communication is in Philadelphia, the nation’s fourth-largest media market. SMC is a comprehensive school of communication whose other departments include Advertising, Media Studies and Production, and Strategic Communication. Nearly 3,000 undergraduates are enrolled in our four departments, and more than 100 graduate students are pursuing our Ph.D., M.A., M.J., and M.S. degrees.
