The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations to teach in the journalism track starting September 1, 2021.
 
Preferred candidates will have earned a Master’s degree in journalism or related communication degree. We seek candidates who are knowledgeable about best practices and modern tools for multiplatform digital storytelling that includes visual, mobile, data, and social media, and possess professional journalism experience in current newsroom practices. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of the value of journalism and media storytelling in presenting the narratives of underserved and marginalized populations. The candidate must have prior teaching experience with a substantial body of academic and professional work and should be able to teach a variety of journalism courses. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the ethical, economic, and technological challenges facing the changing media landscape and should demonstrate innovative approaches and leadership to address them within an undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The ideal candidate embraces the highest ethical standards and is committed to reflecting diversity and inclusion within their syllabi and working with a diverse student population, faculty, and staff.
 
Candidates for tenure-track appointments are expected to establish a successful record of academic scholarship and industry-related professional output as well as participate in service and committee work for the Department, the School, and the University.
