Job Description

The Associate Director will provide editorial oversight and management support of the Knight Science Journalism fellowship program.  This will include assisting the director with training and advising the KSJ fellows, overseeing a fellowship outreach program, managing the program’s seminar series, oversight of the Knight Science Journalism website and the program’s award in science journalism.  Will also -- in consultation with the editor of Undark Magazine -- serve as a writer and/or editor for the publication.

We are hoping to fill the position by late summer 2018.

Job Requirements

A bachelor’s degree; at least seven years’ experience as a professional science journalist; administrative experience; attention to detail; excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills; ability to perform and supervise multiple tasks simultaneously; fluency with a wide variety of computer applications including basic word processing and fluency with modern digital publishing content management systems (CMS), including WordPress; an understanding of and history of participation in social media platforms. Seek a self-directed person who demonstrates creativity and has a high level of executive- or management-level journalism experience.  Experience as an editor preferred; as is experience working at national or international publications covering issues related to the sciences, public health, technology, medicine, or related fields.  Familiarity with allied digital production tools (e.g., Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Premiere/Final Cut, Audition) and associated media (e.g., podcasting, multimedia/interactive graphics, video editing) also preferred. 

Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.  Some travel may also be required.
