Job Description

City Limits seeks a skilled journalist with experience teaching teenagers or working with student interns for a full-time staff position that combines reporting, journalism instruction and program management.


• Administer CLARIFY (City Limits Accountability Reporting Initiative for Youth)

o Recruit interns for spring, summer and fall paid internship programs focused on developing reporting skills through the production of publishable work. Liaise with youth organizations and schools to promote the program. Create an application, screen and invite applicants. o Operate the internship program, including securing space, running instructional clinics, working with interns individually and in teams, incubating and managing reporting projects, processing stipend payments and maintaining relations with program funders. o Maintain a network of program alumni. Organize annual networking events. Create a vehicle for freelance work by former interns.

• Report and write on civic affairs

o Conceive, pitch, report and write news and enterprise articles about New York City affairs that extend, complement or frame intern reporting projects.

Job Requirements

  • Three- to five years reporting and/or editing experience and excellent skills identifying stories, managing editorial projects and editing copy
  • Experience working with youth as a teacher, instructor, counselor, coach or in a similar capacity
  • Excellent organization and management skills
  • Willingness to do some evening and occasional weekend work.
