Express, The Washington Post’s free commuter daily newspaper, is looking for a versatile editor to join its busy news desk. The right person will be a seasoned news editor and all-around news and popular culture junkie with at least five years of experience editing under tight deadlines in either a print or digital newsroom. The ideal candidate will know the Washington area well and be attuned to the concerns of Express’ time-pressed commuter audience.
In this job, you will be expected to quickly and skillfully repackage a wide range of Washington Post and wire content for brevity, clarity and maximum impact. Exceptional copyediting and headline-writing skills are essential. Experience working directly with writers and editing original content is a plus, as is familiarity with InDesign and WordPress. Serious bonus points for candidates who are skilled in the ways of social media and are comfortable with emerging technology.
We are a small, hardworking and highly collaborative group and are looking for someone who will bring energy, creativity and humor to the team. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, generally 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and sometimes involves working on holidays.
Please send resume, salary expectations and samples of your editing work — including your five best headlines — to email@example.com.
