Director of Engagement
The Association of Health Care Journalists is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to drive its engagement efforts and serve as chief daily operations officer. This includes editorial strategy, outreach efforts and staff management. This crucial member of the management team will help us maintain our standards of excellence while helping set a course for new achievements.

The Director of Engagement will …
… work with a board committee on First Amendment advocacy issues
… work with staff to improve member experience by integrating membership data with our newsy and resource-packed website
… work with staff to improve online interaction with members, potential members, event registrants and vendors
… take a lead role in planning marketing of training events and programs, as well as the association itself
… assist in writing and editing of news-related copy, advocacy letters and outreach materials
… work with staff and a board committee on annual journalism awards program
… take lead role in daily personnel matters, especially coaching and accountability
… work with management team to fully integrate association’s greater mission into the life of the university – at both the student and faculty level.
The Association of Health Care Journalists is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing public understanding of health care issues. With about 1,500 members across the United States and around the globe, its mission is to improve the quality, accuracy and visibility of health care reporting, writing and editing. The association and its Center for Excellence in Health Care Journalism provide training, resources and a professional home for journalists. The association and center are based at the Missouri School of Journalism.
Columbia, Mo., is known as an ideal college town, combining small-town comforts, community spirit and low cost of living with big-city culture, activities and resources. Home to nationally renowned public schools and other colleges and educational centers. Job Requirements

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Requirements:

Proven leadership skills. Ability to develop workable plans, set expectations, monitor delegated activities and recognize results.

Conversant on First Amendment issues

Experience in reporting on or editing stories about health care issues

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in small-team environment

Experience developing and implementing communications strategies

Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish credibility with a wide range of stakeholders

Supervisory experience in news- or communication-related setting, obvious from work history.

Familiarity with databases, such as Microsoft Access or customer relationship systems.

Ability to travel occasionally for conferences or workshops.
