For over a quarter of a century, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Authority (MARTA) has moved over 3.5 billion people throughout Atlanta, GA and the surrounding counties. The Authority has been a staple to the community and a great economic driver for the city. MARTA was formed by an act of the Georgia General Assembly in 1965 strictly as a bus system. Today, the Authority operates a network of bus routes linked to a rapid transit system consisting of 38 train stations and 101 bus routes. It also provides separate paratransit services for disabled customers. MARTA is one of the top 10 transportation agencies in the United States with an average total daily ridership (bus and rail) of more than 460,000 passengers.
